About the role
The Data and Analytics unit’s main responsibility is to enable the use of data in If. We build data products, develop data & analytics platforms for the Private, Commercial, and Claims business areas. We are responsible for data lake, data warehouse, analytics, and business intelligence solutions. Our overall data platform is a cornerstone in If’s data strategy, and we work according to agile development principles with product owners and scrum teams.
You will be joining a unit with more than 85 enthusiastic developers, engineers, architects, and managers. Our squads are mostly located at the If offices in Turku, Espoo, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen and Riga. You will be working in a squad inside the Data and Analytics unit.
What are you going to do?
We are looking for two engineers within different specializations.
As Data Engineer with Scrum Master experience, you will take on Scrum Master responsibilities as well in one of our squads working with building data pipelines. You provide guidance to the squad on agile methodology and challenge the squad in continuous improvements to reach higher performance levels, fostering values such as simplification, customer focus and speed.
As Data Management Engineer, you focus on operationalizing our data management practices, automating areas such as metadata management, data quality, regulatory compliance, access management and data governance. You play a vital role in adopting distributed data architecture with strong data governance.
Regardless of specialization, you will build, maintain, and monitor state-of-the-art cloud-based analytics solutions. You will collaborate with data engineers and data scientists on building production-ready solutions and defining best practices. You also are going to contribute to defining data & analytics target architecture and roadmap. You will secure good relations with internal customers and other stakeholders.
What do we expect from you?
Data Engineer with scrum master experience:
- Hands on experience as a Scrum Master, ideally within engineering teams
- Deep understanding of developer workflows and engineering best practices
- Skills in SQL, Python, or .NET (C#) are a plus
- Knowledge of modern cloud-based data & analytics platforms
- Day-to-day responsibilities require a good/excellent level of English and Latvian to communicate with clients and colleagues from Latvia and other countries
Data Management Engineer:
- Strong foundation in data governance and management (quality, access, compliance e.g., GDPR)
- Hands-on track record automating governance processes (policies, access, metadata, lineage) in Azure & Databricks (Microsoft Fabric a plus)
- Ability to champion data standards, encourage catalogue adoption, and embed governance into delivery
- Day-to-day responsibilities require a good/excellent level of English and Latvian to communicate with clients and colleagues from Latvia and other countries
Nice to have for both roles:
- Background in building and maintaining batch & real-time data pipelines (Databricks, Data Factory, dbt)
- Familiarity with CI/CD and Azure DevOps pipelines
- Skilled in infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, PowerShell, Bash)
- Strong communicator who works well in diverse, cross-functional teams
- Comfortable working independently while also driving best practices and continuous improvement
